Safe-Guard (fenbendazole 10%) Paste is an oral equine dewormer provided in a 25 g apple-cinnamon–flavored syringe. It delivers fenbendazole at 100 mg per gram and is arranged with plunger marks for weight-based dosing to simplify accurate administration.
- Target parasites: Labeled to control large and small strongyles, pinworms, ascarids, encysted cyathostome larvae, and fourth-stage Strongylus vulgaris larvae.
- Dosing options: Standard labeled dose is 2.3 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) orally; a 4.6 mg/lb (10 mg/kg) dose is used for foals, weanlings, or ascarid situations. For encysted cyathostome larvae and certain fourth-stage larvae, a 10 mg/kg dose given once daily for five consecutive days is the labeled regimen.
- Syringe coverage & acceptance: One 25 g syringe delivers the 5 mg/kg dose to a 1,100 lb horse; the apple-cinnamon flavor may aid acceptance.
Precautions: Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. Avoid underdosing to reduce resistance risk. Hypersensitivity reactions can occur from dying parasites. The 5-day 10 mg/kg regimen has not been evaluated in stallions or pregnant mares. Use the syringe’s weight-based marks to deliver the labeled dose.
